The Web sites chosen are beneficial to students who want advice on different writing problems or questions. The first Web site is an overview of college writing, while the last three are more specialized.

   

Michael Harvey's The Nuts and Bolts of College Writing

This site is useful to all college students. Simply browse through the different headings, such as Style and Structure, and click on whatever issue interests you. It is extremely useful in the different styles of citation: MLA, APA, Chicago, and CBE. Under the Mechanics heading, explore Top Ten Mistakes, which explain common writing errors.

   

Brock University- How to Write a Thesis Statement

This site is helpful to students who are unsure of how to approach writing a thesis statement. The site defines a thesis statement and its uses. It also explains how to narrow down a topic and what a good thesis is for a research paper. This site is easy to explore because all of the information is on one page.

   
Purdue University- Verb Tense Consistency

This site is extremely helpful to students who have trouble keeping the same verb tense throughout a sentence. The section labeled 'Controlling Shifts in Paragraph or Essay' is a good review for any writer. Many examples are given to further explain different points.

This site simply explains the differences between active and passive verbs. There are examples given to further show the uses of each verb type. In the examples, the subject is bolded and the verb italicized to clearly show the differences between the verb types.
