Speech-Language-Hearing Community Clinics

The La Salle University Speech-Language-Hearing Community Clinics, which opened in 2008, provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to those with communication or swallowing disorders who live in the community surrounding La Salle. The clinics are also an invaluable training ground for speech-language pathology graduate students, who are supervised by licensed speech-language pathologists as they work with clients.

Two clinics are available for adults and children:

  • St. Francis Clinic for Adults—provides diagnostic evaluations and treatment for individuals who have a variety of communication and swallowing disorders including aphasia, traumatic brain injuries, cognitive-communication impairments, right-hemisphere disorder, stuttering, apraxia of speech, dysarthria, and voice disorders.
  • St. Blase Clinic for Children—provides diagnostic evaluation and therapeutic intervention for children with a variety of communication and swallowing disorders, including disorders of articulation and phonology, expressive and receptive language delays, hearing loss, auditory processing disorders, stuttering, voice disorders, and speech and language disorders as a result of developmental disabilities including autism spectrum disorders, as well as pediatric feeding and swallowing impairments.

The purposes of the LUSLHCC clinics are two-fold: to provide SLHS graduate students with clinical experience during their program and to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to those in the surrounding community with communication and/or swallowing disorders. The students receive one-to-one supervision from licensed and certified speech-language-pathologists as they provide diagnostic and therapeutic intervention across the entire spectrum of communication disorders.

The La Salle University Speech-Language-Hearing Community Clinics are used primarily as an educational training facility, so the fees are reduced and a sliding scale may be offered based on financial need.
