Sister M. Rose Carmel Scalone

Sister Rose Carmel Scalone is a member of the Sister of Mercy of the Americas, Mid-Atlantic Community. She earned a B.S. degree in Biology from College Misericordia (now Misericordia University) in 1968; a BSN from Cornell University’s New York Hospital School of Nursing in 1973; a MPH and Nurse Midwifery Certification from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Hygiene and Public Health in 1977; an Ed.D. from Columbia University’s Teachers College in 1995; and a Diploma in Homeopathy from the School of Homeopathy, New York in 2005.  

Her areas of expertise include women’s health, holistic health care, health education, homeopathy, and various complementary/alternative health care therapies. Sr. Rose practiced nurse-midwifery for over 30 years in New York and Pennsylvania and taught in the Nurse-Midwifery Master’s Program at Columbia University. She taught in schools in New York and Pennsylvania—most recently, at Drexel University, the Richard C. Goodwin School of Professional Studies, and the Center for Human Integration, a school of complementary/alternative therapies in Philadelphia. 

Sr. Rose joined La Salle first as a Women’s Health Care Practitioner in the  Neighborhood Nursing Center in 2007—and in 2009, as the Director of the Community-Based Abstinence Education Program funded by the Department of Health and Human Services. In 2010, she began teaching at La Salle and became the Director of the Health Studies Program. Sr. Rose worked on the curriculum for the B.S. in Public Health and on making it the focus of the Health Studies Major and looks forward to helping with the implementation of Public Health program at La Salle in the near future.
