The Social Work Department offers the Bachelor in Social Work, accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, the national accrediting body in undergraduate and Master’s level social work education.
The Bachelor of Social Work degree is offered in the traditional four-year format, as well as in an accelerated format.
The department prepares competent entry-level generalist social workers for practice, with an emphasis on service in the urban community. These practitioners integrate the Lasallian values of respect for the individual and a commitment to social and economic justice with the theory, skills, and values of the social work profession.
The department challenges students to examine issues of human diversity, vulnerable populations, and social injustices so that students will become agents of social change.
The department also encourages students to undertake an exploration of self as a means of understanding and incorporating the values of the profession. The BSW degree prepares students for practice in the social services and related fields and for graduate study.
