James M. Mancinelli is the Director of Clinical Education in the Speech-Language-Hearing Science Program in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. He is a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist. Mr. Mancinelli is a teacher, administrator, clinician, and researcher. At La Salle he advises graduate students pursuing a master’s degree in speech-language pathology and teaches undergraduate courses, the graduate level clinical practicum, acquired language disorders, and the medical speech pathology elective. As an administrator, he is responsible for managing the clinical education program, developing relationships with external affiliates, establishing clinical contracts, and making clinical assignments for the three clinical practica in the graduate program.
Mr. Mancinelli has 28 years of clinical experience in medical speech-language pathology, and is still clinically active. His focus has always been neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders. He has worked in acute care, acute rehab, sub-acute rehab, and long-term care, as well as out-patient therapy with adults with neurogenic communication and voice disorders. His research interests include acquired apraxia of speech, neurogenic communication disorders, speech-motor control in people who stutter, and clinical education.
Mr. Mancinelli has co-authored a textbook on acquired language disorders in adults, which is presently under contract for the second edition. He has published on the topic of ALS and has also presented at the ASHA Convention on various topics. He is also a published poet and considers it an honor to be able to work with the staff and faculty in the La Salle’s SLHS Program
