Considering Graduate or Professional School?
First, you should decide if continuing your education is the right way to go. "The job market is lousy, so I'll go to grad school!" … "All my friends are going to law school!" … "I don't have any experience, maybe grad school will help!?" … These are not appropriate reasons for continuing your education at the graduate level.

the Career Services Center can help you decide if grad/professional school is right for you and which degree you should be pursuing through the following services and resources:

·Individual Consultations - set up an appointment with a counselor to discuss options.

·Information on standardized tests - test booklets are available in the Career Services Center.

·Power Prep software - for the GRE & GMAT exams.

· Petersen's Guides Graduate School Guides - six volumes of information on just about any graduate school or program in the US.

· Books about applications and personal statements.

Okay! You've decided a graduate or professional degree is needed to pursue your chosen career. Here's a short Checklist to help you apply:

Use DISCOVER to select schools that meet the criteria you are looking for.
Talk to your academic advisor or department chair … they will be able to assist you with selecting the best schools for you or let you know where alumni have gone.

Consult the Petersen's Guides for information on the programs you're considering. Check the Career Services Center for grad school catalogs or request cards.
Narrow your list of schools to which you will apply and request catalogs from these schools.

Prepare for the entrance exam by using the PowerPrep software (for the GRE and GMAT) or review booklets for other exams.
Consider taking a Prep course.

Prepare a personal statement to use with applications.
Check grad school websites for on-line applications - they may be free.
Gather all the documents you will need for applications - transcripts, personal statement, resume, letters of recommendation, etc.
