Assess Yourself !

for you.
-Identify the skills, values and abilities that are most important
to you.

will help you assess yourself in no time!
Research the Current Job Market !
-Check the career-related web sites for current information.
- Read local newspapers and magazines; national business and news
publications.
- Browse through publications including The Occupational Outlook
Handbook and Job Bank books, available in our Career Resource
Library.
Prepare Your Game Plan !
- Use a calendar to organize your job search; block off times
for creating a resume, writing cover letters.
- Participate in On, job fairs, and information
sessions.
- Check eXplorenet frequently
Develop A "Network" !
-Conduct information interviews; these can be arranged on your
own or through the Alumni-On-Campus Program.
-Talk to faculty, recent graduates, family friends, relatives,
and everyone else you know.
-Cover All Your Bases !

Develop a professional resume and cover letter !
Attend one of the Career Services Center' resume workshops.
During resume review sessions, a counselor will critique your
resume and cover letters.
Prepare for interviewing !
Attend an Interviewing Skills workshop at the the Career Services Center
Center.
Schedule a mock interview with a the Career Services Center counselor.
Always research the company with whom you have the interview and
the industry in which you want to work.
Use the telephone !
-Ask for the name and title of the person to whom you should direct
your resume.
-Always get the correct spelling and gender!
-Call again within a week after mailing your resume; make sure
the appropriate person did receive your resume.
Additional Ideas:
-Work part-time or take a temporary job in your field of interest.
-Gain career experience through an internship or co-op. Or, volunteer.
-Re-evaluate your priorities. Is graduate or professional school
on option?
-Travel. Consider an international internship.
-Consider relocation.
-Look for non-traditional sources of employment.
