ARTICLE VII. Legislation
Section 1: Any Senator or Executive Officer may propose legislation for consideration by the Senate concerning any topic, including amendments to or creation of standing Election Codes, or other By-Laws of the government.
Section 2: Any Senator or Executive Officer wishing to propose legislation for consideration by the Senate shall transmit his/her proposal to the President of the Senate (Executive Vice-President of Student Affairs) no later than one week prior to the next general Senate Meeting. The Executive Board shall review any submitted proposal and, within the time span of two (2) general meetings of the Senate, recommend, by majority vote, appropriate action on the proposal and will offer it to the Senate for their consideration.
Section 4: All amendments to standing Codes, Rules or Regulations of the Students’ Government Association must be in the form of legislation, and shall require a majority vote of all Senators present to be considered adopted.
Section 5: No legislation may conflict with this Constitution or any promulgated University policy.
Section 6: All legislation shall require a majority vote of Senators present to be considered adopted, unless otherwise expressly provided for within this Constitution.
Section 7: Once approved, all Senators and Executive Officers shall be bound by the legislation in effect, and the Senate shall have authority to prescribe the penalty for failure to comply with the directives of approved legislation.
