Two-day Planning Retreat

SGA Retreat The members of our Students' Government Association Executive Board gave up one of their summer weekends for a two-day planning retreat to prepare for the coming year's service to the University community.

As the only five undergraduate student leaders elected by campus-wide vote, the Executive Board members lead our dynamic and nationally-recognized SGA, and this year's retreat was designed to help SGA get off to a smooth start in the fall. Discussion topics included an overview of the University''s leadership and governance structures; planning for the appointment of student representatives to the University's key committees; the preparation of a solid calendar of SGA and SGA-sponsored events for the year, from the September 11 Memorial through the American Cancer Society Basketball Marathon and beyond; plans for pre-Opening Weekend training and development for SGA and SGA's own role in the University-wide effort to make Opening Weekend a success for our incoming students; planning for Freshman Senate elections; and an examination of data culled from our recent participation in the National College Health Assessment, with discussion of potential strategies to partner with the Division of Student Affairs in ever-more effective promotion of personal and collective responsibilities for health and safety in our community.

Also on the docket was an evening in center city Philadelphia for dinner and attendance at a performance of The Color Purple, featured in the Kimmel Center's Broadway at the Academy Series.
