Dear Graduate and Continuing Studies Students,
It's said on campus, from time to time, that the services of the Division
of Student Affairs are intended solely for undergraduate day division
students. At some universities, that actually is the case. Not so
at La Salle University.
While many of our programs and services focus on the extensive and
apparent needs of our undergraduate day division students, our mission
- to build, sustain, and enhance a community focused on student learning
- does not differentiate between students based on degree programs,
residence, or the times of day at which they take classes.
It is true that most of our offices and programs are open primarily
during daytime business hours. It also is true that the special needs
of evening and weekend students can often be met by phone contact
or by means of pre-arranged appointment. (One exception, for a variety
of reasons, is our Student Health Center, which provides full services
only to fulltime students, undergraduate and graduate alike.)
Except when specifically (and very rarely) noted, all of the programs
and activities advertised in our weekly, posted schedule - Explore
This! - or the University Events calendar (accessible from the sidebar
at left) are open to all members of the University Community.
I encourage you to become familiar with the information in all sections
of the Division of Student Affairs website, especially the information
contained in our divisional publications. Just click on one of the
menu items at left.
You'll be welcome to join our worship community, regularly or from
time to time, in the De La Salle Chapel or to join in (or establish
your own program of) community service with the students and staff
of University Ministry & Service. Learn about study abroad or the
plans for this year's Kwanzaa celebrations or participate in developing
a program or event by contacting University Life. Our Counseling Center,
Student Health Center, Alcohol and Other Drug Program (with regularly
scheduled evening hours), and Peer Educators all are allied in Health
Services. Call or stop by our Brother Augustine Center for Off-Campus
& Commuter Students or learn about our many student organizations
from the Community Development staff. As you explore and prepare to
achieve the career goals that will bring your academic preparation
to fruition, check in with the Career Services staff, in person or
via their web-based systems. If you are a fulltime student considering
campus residence or if you need to learn about or use the facilities
of the La Salle Union, stop in to see the Administrative Services
staff.
I also encourage you to learn more about the services of other University
offices and personnel. Information available from the offices or websites
of the Office of Student and Accounts Receivable, Safety & Security, Food Services, and other University
offices and programs will likely come in handy from time to time.
If and when you have needs for further information, please don't hesitate
to contact my office; if someone in the office can't answer your question
directly, you'll be put in touch with one or more of our colleagues
who can. Also, if you believe additional web-based or other resources
for graduate and continuing studies students would be helpful, please
don't hesitate to let me know of your ideas.
Best regards,
Joseph J. Cicala, Ph. D.
Dean of Students
