Rousseau Award

This award is given to a member of the La Salle University community who

  • Promotes a deeper understanding of Catholic Social Teaching
  • Promotes an understanding of social justice within the La Salle University community
    • Specifically work which is aimed at changing that which causes people to be excluded, impoverished, and disempowered, and
    • The importance of doing this work in a way which demonstrates an attitude of fundamental respect for all people, but especially for those who are marginalized.
  • Promotes peace and reconciliation between individuals, groups, and/or communities.
  • Fosters collaborative efforts between La Salle University and local, national or international partners that further these goals.

Any faculty or staff member of La Salle University may be nominated for this award.  Any faculty or staff of La Salle University may nominate an individual.

Nominations will consist of a letter which explains, in as much detail as possible, the reasons that an individual should be considered for this honor.  The letter should specifically express how the nominated individual:

    • Has been involved in work which aims at the development of a society in which nobody will be marginalized.  This is not to be confused with work which has as its aim a society in which marginalized people are adequately cared for.
    • Has worked effectively to change those social situations, public attitudes, structures, or policies which cause people to be excluded, impoverished, or disempowered.
    • Has demonstrated an attitude of respect for the human dignity of all people, but especially those who suffer from poverty and injustice.
    • Has worked towards peaceful resolution to conflict.
