Trinidad native Simone Brewster Receives
International Student Award from La Salle University

Trinidad native Simone Brewster graduated high school knowing she wanted to attend college in the United States. While most of her friends went to local colleges in Trinidad, she hopped on a plane designated for Philadelphia. Four years later, La Salle University graduate received the university's International Student Award.

"I have always considered my choice of coming to
La Salle a wise one. This award just adds to the list of reasons," says Brewster. "As an international student, I have always felt at home here."

The International Student Award recognizes a foreign student who shows outstanding service and dedication to the La Salle community.

"Ever since kindergarten, I was always eager to be involved in everything. Whenever someone needed a volunteer, I would put my hand up," jokes Brewster, when asked about her involvement in many extra-curricular activities. "My mother makes fun of me saying that I always take on too much."

A double major in Finance and Pre-Law and a minor in Risk Management, Brewster worked as an international student counselor in the university's Admissions Office, sharing her experiences at La Salle. "For some students, it may be scary for them to be so far away from home, but I want them (international students) to know La Salle can be their home away from home," she said.

As President of the Cross Cultural Association, she helped educate La Salle's community about the diverse cultures on campus. She was an active member of the Cultural Enrichment Team, which assists with transfer international student's orientation, and worked with campus cultural organizations to plan educational events for the university.

And to add to her already extensive list of extra-curricular activities, Brewster is also a member of Gamma Iota Sigma (Risk Management Honors Society); African American Student League; Sexual Assault Violence Ends; National Society of Collegiate Scholars; and the Diplomat-In-Residence program.

After graduation, Brewster plans to attend graduate school to become a financial consultant. "I always want to remain apart of the La Salle community. I will definitely be coming back to visit!"
