La Salle University Basketball Legend Tom Gola
Moved to Rehab Center

La Salle University Basketball legend Tom Gola has been transferred from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to a rehabilitation center, according to September 5 reports in the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News.

Gola, 70, had been hospitalized since July 25 when he fell and hit his head on a curb while walking to a restaurant with his wife, Caroline, and friends.

One of college basketball’s greatest players, Gola led the La Salle men’s basketball team to the National Invitational Tournament title in 1952, and the 1954 NCAA championship. He still holds the NCAA record for most rebounds in a career with 2,201. Gola is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
In November of 1998, the University named its basketball arena in the Hayman Center after him.
