Jennifer Kolea Wins McGowan Scholarship
Jennifer Kolea will soon begin
her senior year at La Salle University. She will have the same worries
as many of the other final-year students: Will I find a job? Will
I keep up my G.P.A. this year? Will I graduate with honors? Kolea,
however, has one less worry than most. Her final year of tuition
is already paid.
Kolea, a Northeast
Philadelphia resident, recently won the McGowan Scholarship. This
$13,400 scholarship is awarded to business students who have achieved
academic excellence. It received its name from William G. McGowan,
founder of MCI Communications. “He was a true entrepreneur
and innovator within the business world,” Kolea said.
Kolea, a graduate
of St. Basil Academy High School in Jenkintown, has a dual major
in accounting and finance. “I found the business world to
be very interesting, fast paced, and always changing,” she
said. “I am very happy I have chosen both majors and truly
enjoy my studies.”
Aside from her
studies, Kolea is kept busy through involvement in numerous activities
at La Salle. “I am a member of the Accounting Association,
Alpha Beta Accounting Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor
Society, and the La Salle Ambassadors,” she said.
This summer
she plans to gain experience by doing an internship with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Kolea is certain of her desire to enter the business world, but
not certain of which area to pursue. “Right now, I am exploring
my options and waiting to see what opportunities come my way.”
