Communication Majors Ben Rosehart and Matt DeLucia Awarded Broadcast Pioneers Scholarships

La Salle University junior Ben Rosehart and sophomore Matt DeLucia were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia, a non-profit organization that promotes broadcast-related causes. The annual honor, given to six communication students from Philadelphia-area schools, rewards students who plan on pursuing careers in the field.

Rosehart interned with the Philadelphia Eagles Media Services department for the 2004-2005 season and traveled to the Super Bowl with the team. He gained valuable experience working in the Eagles press box. The Plymouth Meeting native will be an intern this summer with the sports department at WTXF (29 FOX Philadelphia).

He currently hosts and serves as executive producer for "Sports Talk Philadelphia," a program on the La Salle’s cable channel. He also helms the interview segment on "SportsLine," a weekly show on the network. The program focuses on La Salle athletics and features interviews, highlights, scores and commentary. Rosehart is also involved with the Communication Department Student Board and is General Manager of WEXP La Salle Radio.

DeLucia serves as executive producer for "SportsLine. He also reports for "56 News," a monthly news program, hosts a show on WEXP and helps run activities for incoming freshmen.

"I came here expecting to go far in broadcasting," he explained. "The [Communication Dept.] faculty is dedicated to helping each student succeed." DeLucia credits several faculty members, including Bro. Gerry Molyneaux, with helping him develop valuable relationships within the broadcasting industry. "He has helped me create major contacts that will help me advance my career," he said.

Next year, DeLucia will co-host "SportsLine" with Rosehart. "Ben has an extra year of experience, so I really value his suggestions and ideas," said DeLucia.

DeLucia was recently hired by the New Jersey Network (WNJS Channel 23) as a part-time reporter. He will host segments on "New Jersey Works," a show that highlights advancements in the New Jersey job market.

Rosehart was pleased to share the award with his colleague. "I thought I had a good shot at winning but seeing Matt win made it even better," said Rosehart. "As anchors on ‘SportsLine’ we can say we're an award-winning team."
