La Salle alum Peter Boyle, film and tv star, passes away
Peter Boyle, a 1957 La Salle graduate and star of many films and television shows, most notably Everybody Loves Raymond, died December 11 of heart disease and bone-marrow cancer.
A one-time Christian Brother who took the name Brother Frances de Sales, Boyle decided to pursue an acting career after he was graduated from La Salle.
La Salle honored Boyle with an honorary degree in 1993, and again in 2005 with the Shining Star award from the Communication Department.
“The Shining Star Award is given to a professional with an outstanding career in communication and also a record of service to the community, and Peter certainly meets those standards,” said Br. Gerry Molyneaux, a La Salle professor and long-time friend of Boyle’s.
A Philadelphia native, Boyle appeared in the films Young Frankenstein, The Candidate, Monster’s Ball and Joe (for which he received a Best Actor Oscar nomination). Boyle won an Emmy for his special appearance on the X Files.
