La Salle's Julianne Mesaric is Always Busy Helping Others
“Even when I was little, I would get really sad when I saw people who needed help,” said Julianne Mesaric, a La Salle University student. “I feel truly blessed with what I have been given in my life, and I want to give back to those who aren’t as fortunate. In my future career, I can’t imagine working for someone just to make them money. I want to put my time and efforts into working for a greater good.”
A Dillsburg, Pa. resident, Mesaric’s most recent philanthropic task was to organize “Passionately Pink for the Cure” at La Salle, to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Members of the La Salle community were asked to wear the color pink on October 16 to raise awareness and donate $5 to the Komen Foundation. Mesaric grew passionate about the fight against breast cancer when she learned her mother, Stephanie Mesaric (who has been in remission), was diagnosed.
“I was introduced to the Komen Foundation because my family participated in a walk to support my mom, which was sponsored by them,” she said.
For the past three semesters at La Salle, she has been the Philanthropy Chair of the Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority, in which she organized volunteers to participate in two walks to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society, and to help out the recent MS City-to-Shore Bike Tour.
In addition, Mesaric organized a lunch for the workers of Habitat for Humanity and interned at the March of Dimes in King of Prussia, where she worked under the Director of Communications and was able to help with WalkAmerica.
A senior Communications major and English minor, Messaric is the President of the Association of Women in Communications, Vice President of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority, a writer for La Salle University’s student newspaper, the Collegian, and is a Writing Fellow, a volunteer position in which students help other students with writing projects.
She also babysits, works as an office assistant for her sister, a speech language therapist at Medly and Mesaric Therapy Associates, and has waitressed for the past three summers.
In her spare time she likes to read, write, listen to music, do yoga, and hang out with friends.
“I chose to come to La Salle because I liked what its Communications program had to offer. I also liked how it was a smaller school with a good sense of community, and that it was near a city, and not too far from home,” said Mesaric. “ I know a made a good choice when deciding to come to La Salle because the professors here love what they do and are committed to their students, which encourages me to want to motivate others.”
After graduation, Mesaric plans to stay in the city and go to graduate school. “I plan to work in the communications field and hopefully write my own book,” said Mesaric. “Upon graduating I know I won’t have regrets because La Salle has provided me with great friends, a good education, and support that has given me the confidence to achieve my goals.”
