Big ‘Smile’: La Salle Student Angela Cardillo
Wins Digital Art Contest with Help from Goddaughter
For La Salle University’s annual contest in Digital Arts, senior Angela Cardillo submitted a piece of digital artwork focusing on her goddaughter Ava. It was a good choice, as Cardillo’s entry won the competition. She is a Digital Arts and Multimedia Design major.
In summary, the judge noted that the image is a skillfully manipulated illustration from a photograph. The colors and shapes emphasize the joy and playfulness of childhood. The feeling that the artist has been able to capture along with the composition and skillfully painted digital manipulation is what makes this piece successful.
"Smile is the title of the piece,” said Cardillo. “Being an art history minor, I like to take photographs that capture the emotion and character of the subject. Then I turn these photographs into vector illustrations. I got the idea for this illustration when I was watching my goddaughter Ava play with her doll. I wanted to capture her energy, spirit, and connection with her doll into a photograph, which I could then turn into an illustration.”
Ava was five when Cardillo began the project.
