Kimberly Davidow, Perkasie Resident and La Salle University Student, Awarded Broadcast Pioneers Scholarship

Perkasie resident and La Salle University student Kimberly Davidow was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia. The scholarship is given to communication majors from Philadelphia-area colleges who hope to work in the field.

This summer, Davidow will intern as a reporter for Philadelphia’s CareerTV, a 30-minute program distributed to college TV stations. Her work will appear on CareerTV’s website.

Davidow, who recently completed her junior year, already has done three internships while at La Salle:

This past spring, she interned at KYW-TV (Channel 3) in Philadelphia, where she assisted reporters and worked in the control room, the Traffic Center, the assignment desk, and Weather Central.

Last fall, she interned for the Sports Department at WFMZ-TV in Allentown, Pa. on the show The Big Ticket, where she shot footage of football games, helped edit stories, and was credited as a producer on the final episode.

In the summer of 2007, she was in Manhattan for an internship at VH1 with its show Best Week Ever.

At La Salle, she has been active with the University’s TV station, La Salle 56. She started there working in the control room and now produces and hosts two shows.

Last year, she was elected as President of Young Broadcasters at La Salle and was re-elected for the 2008-09 academic year. She also was inducted into the Communication Honor Society, Lambda Pi Eta.

A graduate of Archbishop Wood High School, Davidow said, “I want to be a television news reporter and work my way to become an anchor.”

“Television media is so vital in today's world, and I want to be able to contribute my efforts to tell accurate and informative stories,” she said. “The responsibility that comes along with this type of career is a job that I know that I am qualified for and will enjoy. I want to gain the peoples' trust in order to make a difference in my community. I can honestly say that the Communication professors, my peers, and the experiences that I have been fortunate to be are part of are reasons why I want to go into broadcasting as a career. And I am excited for the challenge to come May of 2009, when I graduate.”
