La Salle University Welcomes
More Than 1600 New Students to Campus

La Salle University’s freshmen – who’ll graduate in 2012 – will begin arriving on Thursday, August 21, to begin their collegiate careers. In addition to the 855 freshmen, there are 419 new graduate students, 128 new transfer students, and 280 new students in the College of Professional and Continuing Studies.

About 86% of the freshmen will be living on campus. The total freshmen class is an 11 percent increase from the Fall, 2007 semester.

The undergraduate class of 2012 is 59 percent female and 41 percent male. Students come from 28 states (including Pennsylvania) and 10 foreign countries.

It is a class that will see some changes to the La Salle campus since they were there in June and July for orientation:

St. Benilde Tower on the University’s West Campus has been renovated to accommodate the physical science departments and the Math and Computer Science Department for the ’08-’09 year, while the Holroyd Hall, home of the Hugh and Nancy Devlin Center for Science and Technology, is being expanded and updated (with a completion date of August, 2009).

In addition, Elements Café has opened in the ground floor of St. Benilde Tower, providing an innovative health-conscious cuisine, low-fat and reduced-sugar menu selections and a full array of fresh, healthy eating options.

Construction of a bridge that will allow pedestrian traffic over Wister Street between St. Benilde Tower and the main campus has begun, and is scheduled to be completed between October 20 and November 1.

Construction on the Shoppes at La Salle, including a Fresh Grocer Supermarket and retail stores, on Chew Avenue is progressing with expected openings of stores ranging from November, 2008 to April, 2009.
