Clifton Resident Rob Fierro to Intern with La Salle University’s Office of University Communications

Rob Fierro, a lifelong resident of Clifton, is interning with La Salle University’s Office of Communications for the 2009 Fall semester. He is a senior with a major in Communication, and plans to complete his undergraduate work this semester.

“There are many interesting aspects of the field, and I’m glad I’ve become somewhat of a ‘jack of all trades,’” laughed Fierro, who also has a part-time position with a freelance video editor in Philadelphia.

“I chose the Mass Communication concentration because it gave me the best opportunity to try a variety of things in the field,” said Fierro. During his college career, he has done production work, script and news writing for La Salle’s radio and television stations, and recently he’s been writing album reviews for a Web site called 411mania.com. “Now I have a chance to try my hand at public relations.”

Fierro will be graded for his internship work and will receive three credits.

He will be writing press releases about university events, students and alumni. One of his first assignments was to interview Mike Siekski, an alumnus and adjunct faculty member at La Salle, who just published his second book, Fading Echoes: A True Story of Rivalry and Brotherhood from the Football Fields to the Fields of Honor. It’s about two Bucks County teenagers who joined the armed forces after 9/11.

“I originally chose to attend La Salle University because I had a good friend who enjoyed her time here. I like Philadelphia because it’s not too far from home. It feels like I never even left. I’m glad to be back,” Fierro said.

“Robert will definitely try his best,” said his mother Diana, “It’s a little different than the music articles he’s used to, but I’m sure he’ll do just fine.” She and Rob’s father, Robert Fierro, have lived in Clifton for 25 years and celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. “He works hard. I’m sure he’ll be able to learn the ropes easily,” added his father.
