Final project

Organization/Commercial Web sites

Commercial or organization Web sites are due online as of Tuesday, May 4. The recommended URL is of the form: http://www.lasalle.edu/~smithj1/final/
The site must be distinct from the Information Site in content, coding and grid structure. For your site you must follow the project management process for a business, or organization, which can be hypothetical. For those choosing an organization, non-profits or college groups will work well. The sites should include a minimum of 300 words (carefully edited) dispersed over 6-8 Web pages, and must include the following:

  • text/content;
  • at least 5 still images;
  • a working form page with action specified
  • layout done in CSS (see the Chapter 11 example, or use one of the CSS layouts that come with Dreamweaver)
  • color (background and/or text);
  • font size manipulation (headers, etc.);
  • font family manipulation (Garamond, Times New Roman, etc.);
  • relative links (for site navigation);
  • at least 3 absolute links;
  • at least 1 mailto link;
  • at least one page affected by JavaScript* (rollovers, hide/show layers, etc.)
  • external css stylesheet that creates the layout and some box properties, divs for design, and type formatting e.g. font-family, hover effects, etc.
  • Indication on the site of sources for all images (graphics and photos) audio or video files, and information
  • an animated GIF or Flash animation
  • Optional: the following meta tag in the <head> element: <meta name="robots" content="no index, no follow"> if you don't want your site crawled
  • Optional: an image map;

Remember to:

  • make sites consistent;
  • make sites predictable;
  • use a design grid (to make content easily navigable);
  • use white space effectively;
  • consider screen width and "printability";
  • use tables (to organize information and arrange pages);
  • make pages work individually as well as within the site.

Finally...

Make all sites grammatically and mechanically correct!

Due date: Tuesday, May 4 by 5 p.m. E-mail me the URL and tell me where the JavaScript and GIF are located.
