ADMINISTRATIVE and TEACHING EXPERIENCE

La Salle University, Philadelphia, PA

Assistant Provost for Learning Support and Faculty Development
June 2002-present

Reporting to the Provost, the portfolio of responsibilities for this position includes providing leadership, vision, and management in the areas of academic support, faculty development, and academic technology. Includes supervisory responsibility for seven units and budgets of approximately $750,000.

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the learning support programs at the University, including the Academic Discovery Program, the Academic Enrichment Program, Academic Support for Student-Athletes, and the Sheekey Writing Center.
  • Implemented a peer-tutoring program for the campus which provided tutoring in over 15 subjects to both day and evening students within the first year of operation.
  • Champion and facilitate the use of academic technology at the University through supervision of the Office for Distributed Education, the Multimedia Services Department, the Director of Portal Communications, and the Academic Technology Steering Committee.
  • Provided leadership in selecting and implementing the WebCT course management system to provide Web-enhanced instruction. Over 100 faculty members and 2,500 students were using WebCT within the first year of implementation.
  • Led a team of over 30 faculty and staff in implementing the Sungard/SCT Luminis Web portal. The Luminis system provides customized content and services for faculty, staff, students, prospective students, and alumni. Within the first year of its use, communication has improved across the university and key functions, such as the housing lottery, have been streamlined and automated via the portal.
  • Created an orientation program for new faculty – both full- and part-time – which includes an introduction to the University and targeted workshops and events throughout the year.
  • Member of a four-person team charged with creating a system for freshman advising that would move beyond traditional academic advising. Approximately 100 faculty and professional staff have been recruited as freshman advisors in a new, developmentally based advising program for the class of 2008, which includes early intervention and an electronic alert system for faculty and advisors.
  • Provide leadership in institutional assessment as Chair for the task force reviewing Related Educational Activities for the University’s 2006 Middle States Self-Study.
  • Assist in strategic planning and institutional response to University needs in areas as diverse as enrollment management, institutional assessment, and program and curriculum development.

Director, Art and Art History Program (1999 – 2002)

  • Achieved increased prominence for the program by redesigning the curriculum, marketing the art history minor, and collaborating with other programs.
  • Successfully created two general education courses in art history to attract students to the major and minor as they fulfilled core curriculum requirements.
  • Played a leading role in the development and launch of a new major in Digital Arts in Multimedia Design, including curriculum development, faculty and student recruitment and program assessment
  • Restructured and significantly increased the quality of the University’s slide collection in addition to incorporating digital images in art history courses.
  • Recruited and developed quality adjunct faculty to ensure consistently high standards in teaching and to provide diverse course offerings in the program.
  • Managed and allocated program resources effectively to support creative initiatives such as incorporating off-campus experiences into most art history courses.

Assistant Professor, Fine Arts Department (1997 – 2002; currently teach part time)

  • Developed several courses to enhance the offerings in art history, including two travel-study courses on the art of Renaissance Italy, a team-taught Honors course on modern art and literature, and an online course for Education majors, “Introduction to the Visual and Performing Arts.”
  • Supervised independent studies, internships, and honors theses for students in art history and related majors.
  • Other courses taught included Introduction to the Visual Arts, Medieval Art, Renaissance Art in Italy, Baroque and Rococo Art, American Architecture, Modern and Contemporary Art, History of Digital Art, and Women and Art.
  • Served on the advisory board for the Women’s Studies Program and taught Introduction to Women’s Studies.
