The Teaching, Learning and Technology Roundtable presents the following technology training sessions for Summer 1999. The sessions are open to ALL La Salle faculty (full-time and part-time) - pre-registration is requested; please email Sabrina DeTurk if you would like to register (spaces are still available as of 5/20/99).
An Introduction to Creating

Skill level: NOVICE
May 25,26,27 - 9am to 3pm, Olney 127
Instructor: Sabrina DeTurk
This hands -on workshop will take participants through the basics
of creating and posting their first web pages. Emphasis will be
on understanding the concepts behind creating a web site, designing
course web sites , and on the basics of using Microsoft Word to
create pages and WS_FTP to post pages to La Salle's server. The
course is designed for those who feel that they would like to
begin using the web as a means o f disseminating some of their
course material, but are not sure where to begin. All novice users
are welcome; no prior web knowledge is required (though general
computer literacy will be helpful).

Skill level: INTERMEDIATE
June 1,2,3 - 9am to 3pm, Olney 127
Instructor: Sabrina DeTurk
Emphasis will be on using WYSIWYG editors (primarily Adobe PageMill)
to add features to web pages. Participants will be given the opportunity
to work with multimedia components, such as sound and (possibly)
video, and to learn more about working with graphics (including
use of a scanner, digital camera, and Adobe Photoshop), The workshop
is intended for intermediate users who already have a web site
established for at least one course.
Beyond Notes Mail: Tehniques
and Teaching with Discussion and Document Databases
Skill level: INTERMEDIATE (basic familiarity with Lotus Notes
expected)
June 7,8 - 9am to 3pm, Olney 127
Instructor: Rich DiDio
This hands-on workshop will focus on using Lotus Notes as a teaching
and learning tool. Participants will learn how to exploit the
discussion and database capabilities of Notes as a means to furthering
asynchronous discussion and topic exploration in their courses.
Topics to be covered include: assignment design, working with
discussion groups and databases, distance learning issues and
more.
Online Grading and Testing
Skill level: INTERMEDIATE
June 9 - 9am to 3pm, Olney 127
Instructor: Susan Hines
This session will explore the benefits (and drawbacks) of online
grading and testing. Parictipants will learn how to use grading
software, such as Gradekeeper 2.0 and MS Excel, as well as how
to export appropriate grades and graphical feedback to instructor
web sites via the Internet. In addition, participants will learn
to use server-side software, such as QuizMaker, to create online
tests and quizzes.
