NEW! The Ides of April by Mary Ray
In Rome in 62 A.D., seventeen-year-old Hylas must find a way to save himself, his mother, and the other household slaves from imprisonment and imminent death when their master, a prominent senator, is found murdered. “Part Agatha Christie, part Eloise McGraw ... this book totally blew me away! Mary Ray is terrific, practically creating a whole new genre of books - children's historical mysteries. The plot flows beautifully from one catastrophic event to another, creating a tale of incredible skill and baffling turns.”

The Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery
Meet Anne, an orphan girl who’s adopted by a sister and brother who run a farm on Canada’s Prince Edward Island. Anne’s wild imagination, high spirits and quick temper get her into many amusing scrapes as she builds a life for herself in her new family.

The eight-book series follows Anne from her early teens into college, career, marriage and children of her own, covering a period from the 1880s until 1919. The titles include Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the Island, Anne of Windy Poplars, Anne’s House of Dreams, Anne of Ingleside, Rainbow Valley and Rilla of Ingleside.

Here’s what Elise, 2004 Summer Reading Contest 2nd place winner (youth) had to say about Anne of Avonlea (book 2): “Anne faces not one, but many trials as she tries to teach school with love. In the end, she gets so angry she whips a bad boy. But it turns out OK--the boy only acted bad because he didn’t think a girl could give a good whipping or teach school. I recommend the book because it’s so funny.”
The Archives of Anthropos series by John White
In the spirit of the Chronicles of Narnia, White’s allegorical fantasy series takes contemporary kids to the magical world on Anthropos. There they must fight with the forces of good against evil. White’s creativity, imagination and excellent descriptions create vivid pictures in the reader's mind. The Christian themes are very clear and the series provides a wonderful reminder of how God's son cares for us. Titles include The Sword Bearer, Gaal the Conqueror, The Tower of Geburah, The Iron Sceptre, Quest for the King and Demise of the Dark Lord.

Here’s what Noemi, 2004 Summer Reading Contest 1st place winner (youth), had to say about The Tower of Geburah (book 3): “Lisa, a stubborn girl, and her brothers Kurt and Wesley have to defeat the evil people from the depths of darkness. They defeat their enemies by simple obedience to Gaal, son of the High Emperor. I recommend the book because it is interesting and a good allegory of Jesus.”
NEW! Jennie McGrady Mysteries by Patricia H. Rushford
The Jennie McGrady Mysteries provide compelling, spine-tingling mysteries in the style of a contemporary Nancy Drew. Sixteen-year-old Jennie McGrady is a mischievous, impulsive, determined detective who sees a case in every situation. Faced with true-to-life family struggles and school concerns in addition to her perilous adventures, she will win you over with her numerous other adventures. Titles in the series include Too Many Secrets, Silent Witness, Pursued, Deceived, Without a Trace, and Dying to Win. “These books are awesome! I like mysteries but I couldn't find any aimed for my age group (14) that weren't gruesome or violent. This is one of the best series out there in my opinion. I love the romance too. These books don't have a dull moment yet they have a good value system.”
