Department Internship Policies
Read these policies before proceeding to the internship lists…

Getting Credit…
In order to receive credit for an internship, you must:

  • Be a Junior or Senior communication major.
  • Have a 2.75 gpa overall.
  • Be able to work at an internship site 150 hours over the course of the semester (about 15 hours/week). Note that some internship sites may require more weekly hours.
  • Have an internship at a site approved by the Internship Coordinator. The internships available through the internship directory on this site are all approved. If you locate an internship on your own, you must contact the Internship Coordinator.
  • Enroll in COM 461. You MUST speak with the Internship Coordinator (Tony Waltrich: waltrich@lasalle.edu; ccsconnect@aol.com; X1691 @ LaSalle, or 215-362-0970 @ CCS, Inc.) prior to enrolling in COM 461.

Using Internship Credit
  • Internships typically count for either 3 or 6 credits.
  • The credits earned for an internship count toward University free electives. They may not be used for Communication major elective courses.
  • You may only earn 6 hours of internship credit overall.
  • If you are doing an internship during the summer, you must enroll in COM 461.

  • "The names have been changed…": The names of people and places change often in the communication field, and some of the original listings from which this information was drawn are a little dated. Use the phone number and contact person's title (if available). Call the internship site to verify the information and the availability of current internships.
  • Think outside the track: Students often find interesting internships in the listings related to other tracks. For example, a TV station often has opportunities in human resources or public relations in addition to journalism and production. Explore several lists to find the greatest number of opportunities.
  • Cut and paste rather than scribble: If you find an internship you like, copy the information you want using the cut and paste functions: (1) Open a word processing program. (2) Highlight the row of cells, click "copy," then paste the cells into the word document. DO NOT print these lists, since they will consume many pages and waste resources.
  • Alumni Links: The "LSU" by the contact's name means the person is a La Salle alumnus.
  • Put our best foot forward: When contacting these places, use proper business writing and your best communication skills. Students have been turned down for internships on the basis of poor cover letters and resumes or shoddy appearance. You represent the Communication Department and La Salle University.
