Bryan Skelly, ’04, MA ‘08 - Board Member

Philadelphia, PA
Major: History and Secondary Education (BA)
History for Educators (MA)

Middle School Social Studies and English Teacher / Middle School Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator / Upper School Head Cross Country, Winter / Spring Track and Field at The William Penn Charter School

Student Involvement:
While at La Salle, I participated for four years in cross country, winter track and
field, and spring track and field. I was voted, by my teammates and peers, team
captain for all three in my senior year. As part of my education major, I visited,
observed, and taught at area middle and high schools during my four years at La
Salle. I also participated in the work-study program – supervising both the
fitness center, intramural basketball leagues, and working men’s and women’s
basketball games.

As an athlete, I was a member of four Atlantic 10 Conference championship teams, earned six-first team All-Atlantic 10 honors, and was a three-time NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region performer in cross country.

Post Graduation Involvement:
Since I earned my undergraduate degree at La Salle, I have tried to remain active in the alumni association related to the cross country and track programs.  Most directly, I served as assistant coach for the teams from 2005 to 2007.  Starting in 2008, after I left La Salle to begin teaching, I started my M.A. program in History for Educators, which I completed in 2010.  In 2014, I was selected to serve on the alumni board for the cross country and track and field teams under coach Dan Ireland.  I regularly return to campus for sporting events.  I have also taught in Summer Bridge Program for In-coming students.

Why would you like to serve on the Alumni Board?
“La Salle has been a bit part of my adult life.  I appreciate the opportunities that La Salle provided for me, both in terms of social and professional growth.  I also value La Salle because, coming from a family where neither parent attended university, La Salle provided me, and later my sister, the opportunity to learn, grow, and explore, at an affordable price.  I have been as active as possible in the athletic realm of the university.  But, as a member of the Alumni Board of Directors, I feel I can help serve the great La Salle community.  It is this expanded opportunity to give back to the university that most excites me.”
