La Salle Selected to Host Beta Gamma Sigma’s Meet the Leaders of Business Speaker Series

Alumnus and Trustee Steve Zarrilli to be Featured Speaker

Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), has selected the La Salle University School of Business to host a lecture in its Meet the Leaders of Business Speakers Series. La Salle is one of only five schools selected for the 2013-2014 session.

Steve Zarrilli, La Salle School of Business alumnus and President and CEO of Safeguard Scientific, will be the featured speaker at the event on Feb. 11, 2014. Zarrilli’s presentation, titled “Entrepreneurship and Team Development,” will be held on La Salle’s campus in Holroyd Hall, room 390, at 12:45 p.m. For those unable to attend, Zarrilli’s presentation will be streamed live via Web cast.

Prior to being named CEO of Safeguard Scientifics in November 2012, Zarrilli had served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer since 2008. He has built a career spanning 30 years in strategic, financial, and operational roles as CFO and CEO of both public and private companies. He also has substantial board governance experience, having served on the boards of four other publicly traded enterprises over the last 15 years.

Zarrilli earned his B.S. in accounting from La Salle in 1983, and he is a former Certified Public Accountant. He is a frequent lecturer on corporate governance, financial management, and organizational and capital development matters. He also completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

“We are very pleased to be selected by Beta Gamma Sigma to be part of their Speaker Series,” said Susan Borkowski, Ph.D., Lindback Professor of Accounting and faculty adviser to La Salle’s Beta Gamma Sigma chapter. “This event is a great mentoring opportunity for our students, as it allows them to interact on a more personal basis with a high-powered executive like Steve. He is very approachable and will give our students a dynamic and interactive session and integrate real-world applications into what they learn in the classroom.”
