CHARTER CHALLENGE

CHARTER CHALLENGE

In March 1863, La Salle received its charter from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. To honor this occasion, La Salle University has launched the Charter Challenge to celebrate its 160th anniversary.

What is the Charter Challenge?
President Allen introduced the Charter Challenge, a yearlong fundraising initiative, at his Inauguration in October 2022. The Charter Challenge aims to raise $10 million in several key areas by the end of the 2022-23 academic year.

What does the Charter Challenge support?
Your gift to the Charter Challenge will help in multiple ways. The Charter Challenge will expand existing student scholarships or establish new ones; strengthen the academic and campus experience for La Salle students; and deliver the holistic education and return on investment all La Salle students expect.

How much has been raised to date?
The Charter Challenge has raised more than $9.3 million. In October, the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools—the religious community and teaching order that ministers to Lasallian education globally—made a $3 million lead gift to launch this ambitious fundraising initiative. Additionally, La Salle’s Board of Trustees contributed $1 million in support of the Charter Challenge.

The 1863 Achievement Scholarship

The 1863 Achievement Scholarship helps to fill the gap between standard institutional funding and a student’s financial resources. A $20,000 commitment, paid in four annual installments of $5,000, will support an incoming first-year, resident student for all four years of their La Salle career. This scholarship is awarded as part of their initial financial package, or based on a change in their family’s financial circumstances, and will provide future Explorers with the opportunity to pursue a practical, holistic education rooted in Lasallian values. A commitment to the 1863 Achievement Scholarship makes an immediate impact on the student’s opportunity to enroll and graduate, and is a true investment in their future.
