Brother Miguel Campos co-founded the BUSCA Program, served as the first director of the Multicultural Center, and was a noted Lasallian scholar. This award recognizes a student currently graduating with a Bachelor’s degree, who is a graduate of the BUSCA program and meets the following additional criteria:
Awarded to a student for exemplifying a genuine desire to serve and improve his or her fraternity/sorority, the Greek community and its members, La Salle University, and the community as a whole. In 1982, Dennis Dougherty was a sophomore at La Salle University, majoring in Finance and Computer Science. In a tragic fire at the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity house in September of that year, Dennis lost his life. Upon investigation, it became clear that Dennis had valiantly attempted to save the lives of his fraternity brothers, ultimately giving his own life in his efforts. The Dennis Dougherty Memorial Award honors a graduating senior who emulates the Lasallian spirit that Dennis exhibited in the care he had for his community.
The First-Gen Award is offered to a member of the graduating class who identifies as a first-generation college student, who has made significate contributions to campus life, and helped other students navigate the college experience. A first-generation student is a student whose parents, stepparents, and/or legal guardians did not complete a bachelor’s degree. (If you have a sibling in college, you are both first-generation.)
