Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to complete a degree?
Students may work toward degree completion on either a part-time or full-time basis. Full-time status requires students to take two courses each semester. The length of a student’s program varies based on the courses needed and those already taken by students. You may contact the Graduate Academic Advisor to discuss your particular situation.

What is the average age of your graduate student population?
Our students range in age. Many of our students are either career changers or experienced educators. We also have a number of students that come to us within a few years of receiving their baccalaureate degree.

When are classes typically held? Can I take courses year-round?
Typically, classes are held in the evenings from Monday to Thursday. Most courses are offered during the Fall and Spring semesters. All Courses are offered on Main campus. A subset of our courses is offered during either of two summer sessions. Additionally, select courses are offered during the winter intersession.

Can I work while I attend the program?
Courses are primarily held in the evening. Most of our students work during the day. It is important to remember that certification coursework includes practica experiences during the summer months. Practica are full-day experiences. Student teaching, a full-day educational experience, may also be a component of your program. Student teaching is offered only during the Spring and Fall semesters.

Is there a deadline for admissions?
Applications for Graduate Programs in Education are accepted year-round. In most cases, students can begin a program during the Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters. All documents must be submitted by August 15 (Fall), December 15 (Spring), and April 15 (Summer). Under special circumstances, students may be admitted up to the first day of classes of each term. International student applications should be complete at least two months prior to the dates listed above.

Do I need a background in education to apply to the program? Are there prerequisites for any of the graduate programs?
You do not need to have a background in education to apply to the program. There are no prerequisite courses or exams needed to enter any of our programs.

How much does it cost? Is financial aid available?
