Charles H. Fuller, Jr., HON ’82
Charles H. Fuller, Jr., HON ’82, a playwright, novelist, and screenwriter who won the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, died Oct. 3 at the age of 83. Mr. Fuller’s first play, The Village: A Party, helped launch a career highlighted by A Soldier’s Play. The play debuted off Broadway in 1981 and earned Mr. Fuller the Pulitzer Prize, before the work’s adaptation into a 1984 feature film that received three Academy Award nominations. Eventually, the play reached Broadway stages and earned seven nominations for Tony Awards, winning two—including for Best Revival of a Play. After serving in the U.S. Army, from 1959–1962, Mr. Fuller entered La Salle College’s evening division as an undergraduate. In 1982, La Salle’s President, Brother Patrick Ellis, FSC, conferred upon Mr. Fuller an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree.
