Internship: Comcast: Comcast Business, Product Sales Support and Analysis

What interested you in this internship: “My goal when I took the leap and came to La Salle was to go ‘all-in.’ I have been lucky enough to participate in many internship roles, but wanted to challenge myself and reach new horizons. Comcast is a well-known, respected company, and has a reputation for a rigorous and influential internship program. I decided to take the leap and I am so glad that I did.”

Primary duties: “I was involved in many aspects, including reporting, research, and presentation in order to have the most significant impact on our growth and sales experience. I also supported Comcast’s SMB teams aiding within sales on the products, systems, and tools team. I also assisted with other teams including sales effectiveness, data and analytics, marketing, and sales operations. My previous experience allowed me to become a playmaker for this program.”

Favorite part: “Each day I faced a new challenge. It was my first role in which I was able to directly manage a vendor relationship which applying my knowledge from previous roles to make a direct impact within Comcast Business.”

Biggest challenge: “Overcoming adversity. Comcast is a large, nationally known company, and challenges its employees to thrive as such. Some days I needed to remind myself that I deserved a seat at the table.”

Takeaways: “I was able to network with a plethora of talented professionals, but one individual stated a piece of advice that resonated with me: “Find the people who want to make it to the top and make those your people. Surround yourself with people who will speak your name in rooms filled with opportunity. Find those people, and you’ll make it to the top.” This shows that you can never learn everything. Surround yourself with knowledge, with different perspectives, and with individuals who thrive on success.”

Internship: Attendee at KPMG

What interested you in this program: “From a young age, I always had an interest in learning about other cultures and knew that, when I got older, I would try to travel as much as I could. When I got my invitation to this program, along with the offer letter for my 2023 winter internship, I was ecstatic. This four-day program is truly the opportunity of a lifetime. Not only would I be able to meet new people from all over the world, but I would also be able to experience a whole new culture.”

Primary duties: “Although it was only four days, this program was jam-packed with activities and events. There were the assigned group leadership lessons that were led by one of my attending partners. In these sessions we participated in activities that strengthened our communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, as well as our cultural awareness. There was also an opportunity to ask questions to a senior partner who specializes in the industry that you will be interning for (for me this was audit). Along with these sessions, KPMG organized multiple opportunities for participants to experience Copenhagen. These included a boat tour around the capital, a choice from one of three guided tours (the Christiansborg Palace, Metro Tour, and Food Tasting Local shops), and a group scavenger hunt throughout the capital. Furthermore, there was a client site visit to one of their top clients in Copenhagen, Denmark—the national aquarium. Here, we got to see a demonstration of how KPMG would perform an audit, as well as a behind the scenes tour before the Aquarium opened to the public.”

Favorite part: “It’s so hard to choose a favorite part when the whole journey is filled with fantastic memories. But if I had to choose, I think I would pick the tour of Christiansborg Palace. The tour guide I had was so incredibly knowledgeable, so I truly had an amazing experience. This history surrounding Denmark’s royal family is extremely interesting, and the Palace itself was filled with beautiful architecture and artwork. At the end of the tour, I even bought a book about the Palace, so that I can always remember what I saw and learned.”

Biggest lesson: “‘Become comfortable with being uncomfortable’ was advice said to me during one of my classroom sessions with a senior partner of the firm. I truly believe that this is a key takeaway from the program and a great motto to follow in everyday life. If you learn to feel comfortable with being uncomfortable, then there’s nothing stopping you from experiencing everything the world has to offer; and what’s a better way to truly understand this than traveling to a foreign country by yourself. Being nervous about the unknown is completely normal, but from now on, I choose to not let it stop me from accomplishing my personal and professional aspirations.”

Takeaways: “I will take back all my newfound leadership skills and apply them to the two positions that I have this year—Treasurer of Beta Alpha Accounting Honors Society and Membership Director of Phi Mu. When it comes to my professional job search, my takeaway would be to always be willing to try new things. In my opinion, it’s okay if I end up not liking it, but just being willing to try can open a multitude of doors.”

Internship: Ticket Services Representative with the Philadelphia Phillies

What interested you in this internship: “I always wanted to enter the sports industry and experience what it’s like working for a professional sports team. When the opportunity with the Phillies came along, I knew this would be a great chance to start building up my skills and knowledge in a real work environment.”

Primary duties: “I would answer phones and sell individual game tickets, assist customers with issues regarding their accounts, and answer any general questions about the Phillies.”

Favorite part: “Depending on the day, interns are asked to assist in other aspects of gameday operations. This could be setting up accessible seating around the ballpark, working with kids during the Baseball Academy summer camp, or helping with special events after the games like Kids Run the Bases. Helping the Baseball Academy summer camp was probably my favorite part of the internship. I got to spend a lot of time around the ballpark, spending time with the kids as they learned the fundamentals of the game. We even had actual Phillies players and coaches come and speak to the kids on multiple occasions.”

Biggest challenge: “Dealing with unruly customers over the phone. No matter what profession you enter, you’ll have to deal with customers. No matter what the issue was, it was important for me to stay poised and under control so I could solve whatever issue they had.”

Takeaways: “This job has taught me so many great lessons. This experience also showed me that the work environment is just as important as completing the work itself. Everyone is trying to lift each other up and work together to solve problems. I was blessed to have such great coworkers and supervisors that were very supportive and helpful throughout the whole summer.”
