Brother Gabriel Fagan, FSC, Ph.D., a Christian Brother for 62 years who taught in La Salle University’s English department for nearly a quarter-century, died Dec. 9, 2019, in Lincroft, N.J. Born in New York City, he entered the novitiate at Barrytown, N.Y., in 1957. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Catholic University, a master’s degree from the University of Detroit, and a doctorate from the University of Notre Dame. Brother Gabe enjoyed teaching English on the secondary level at De La Salle Collegiate in Detroit and Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, N.Y. He continued that passion on the collegiate level at St. Mary’s University, in Winona, Minn., from 1975-1986. An appointment as associate professor of English at La Salle University followed. During his 24 years living on campus, he is remembered as a sports enthusiast and chef. He also served as moderator of the campus’ Young Republican Club.
