Henry “Hank” DeVincent, M.D., ’56, passed away surrounded by his family on April 5, 2020. An inaugural member of the La Salle University’s Hall of Athletes, DeVincent’s is one of the only two numbers retired by the La Salle baseball team. His No. 8 hangs just to the right of the scoreboard of the field which is named in his honor. He earned All-America honors in 1956.

DeVincent personified Lasallian values in action. After graduating from Temple Medical School, he entered private practice and enjoyed a distinguished career serving as Chair of Orthopedic Surgery at Holy Redeemer Hospital in Meadowbrook, Pa., for many years, and President of Magnetic Resonance Imagery in New Port Richey, Fla.  DeVincent received the distinguished Holroyd Award in 1987, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the community through proven leadership, supported creativity and originality in science and/or technology, and demonstrated a commitment to Lasallian values.  In 1998, he received the John J. Finley, ’24 Award, presented each year to alumni who have exhibited outstanding service and have made significant contributions to advance the mission of La Salle University and the University’s Alumni Association. He served with the utmost distinction and dedication as a member of La Salle’s Board of Trustees from 1986 to 2005.

As a De La Salle Society member and Blue and Gold Society member, DeVincent consistently and generously contributed to the Annual Fund, Shoulder to Shoulder Initiative and to the sport he loved most—baseball.
