Dr. Knappenberger joined the department in the fall of 2000 after spending nine years as a faculty member at Holy Family College (now Holy Family University). He has been the chair of the department since 2007. While at La Salle, Dr. Knappenberger has been involved with two large National Science Foundation grants – the first being a $300,000 grant that funded summer workshops for high school students of a period of several years in the areas of Cryptography and Chaos & Fractals, among other areas of science, and the second being a $572,000 grant whose main focus was on providing scholarship assistance and support services for computer science majors.

Outside of La Salle, Dr. Knappenberger can often be found on the field coaching both baseball and soccer in local youth organizations.
