The CDC and WHO recommend the following best practices for preventing the spread of all infectious diseases, including COVID-19:

  • Actively encourage those who are sick to stay home.
  • Take everyday preventive actions to help stop the spread of germs.
    • Practice good hand-washing hygiene.
      • Wash your hands regularly.
      • Clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
    • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve while coughing and sneezing.
      • Discard tissues immediately upon use.
    • Maintain at least three feet between yourself and someone who is coughing or sneezing.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
    • Get a flu vaccine, if you have not already done so.
    • Seek medical attention if you experience a fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.
      • Stay informed and follow the guidance of your healthcare provider.
