Biography:

Margaret McGuinness, Ph.D., arrived at La Salle University in 2006 and has served as the chair of the Religion Department and Vice President of Mission. She was formerly co-editor and associate editor of American Catholic Studies, and president of the American Catholic Historical Association in 2013.

McGuinness has authored several books, including Called to Serve: A History of American Nuns (NYU Press, 2013), Neighbors and Missionaries: A History of the Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine (Fordham, 2012), and Roman Catholicism in the United States: A Thematic History, which she co-edited with James T. Fisher (Fordham, 2010). The Catholic Studies Reader, which she also co-edited with James T. Fisher (Fordham, 2011), was awarded first place in “History” by the Catholic Press Association.
