Professor
Nursing

Dr. Kurz joined the SONHS faculty as chair for the undergraduate nursing program in January 2015. She has previously served as department chair and as an associate dean at Temple University. Her commitment to teaching nursing students is evidenced by her many years in the classroom and critical care clinical areas with several institutions, e.g., Temple University, University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Holy Family University, and Delaware State University. She received several training grants from the Department of Health and Human Services: Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) that benefited graduate nursing students and scholarship grants from Independence Blue Cross that helped undergraduate students. Funders for her research include the Pennsylvania Higher Education Nursing Schools Association, HRSA, the Philadelphia Corporation on Aging, and Temple University’s Dean’s Internal Grants.

Dr. Kurz’ publications and presentations have addressed many topics, such as end-of-life education program evaluations, student learning, medical-surgical nursing, international nursing, organ donation, and families’ involvement with heart-lung transplantation. She is a regular reviewer for Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, Journal of Family Nursing, Journal of Pediatric Nursing, Medical Economics, and Medical Science Monitor. Her international work includes two USAID sponsored trips to the Ukraine to address expanding the nursing roles in community settings and the 2014 Nightingale London trip with students to explore the historical and current health care system in England.

She has been a member of the Second Wind National Lung Transplant Association since 1997 and has served on the Board of Directors since 2007.
