Elizabeth Ashford, ’ 18

It’s important to do what makes you happy. La Salle provides students with so many different clubs and activities that it is hard to not find one you love. Now that I am a second semester senior, I’m going to miss all of the activities I got to be a part of that truly made me happy.

Name: Elizabeth Ashford

Major: Political Science

Class Year: 2018

Hometown: North Potomac, Md.

Sports/Clubs/Organizations: Peer Educators, Sexual Assault and Violence Ends (SAVE), Career Peer, Phi Mu.

What made you choose La Salle?

Community service. I wanted to go to a school where the student body really rallied around the community and I found that in La Salle.

What was your experience in La Salle’s political science program like?

It has been the most rewarding experience I have ever been fortunate enough to partake in. Being able to coordinate a service group, sit on advisory boards and be taught by professors with such diverse backgrounds has really shaped my experience here.

What helped you decide on your major?

Growing up in the D.C., metro area, everyone is very involved with politics in some capacity so it just felt natural to pick political science as a major.

Who has been the most influential member of the La Salle community on your life?

Katie Minese. Ever since my freshman year she has been my adviser, therapist, and occasional dinner date. Without her, I would have been so lost and starved.

How do you think La Salle helped prepare you for the future beyond college?

By giving me all the tools that I need to be successful. The Career Center and advisers have so many different resources for students who are about to graduate that it makes the transition a little less painful.

What was one of the biggest lessons you learned  at La Salle?

That it’s important to do what makes you happy. La Salle provides students with so many different clubs and activities that it is hard to not find one you love. I’m going to miss all of the activities I got to be a part of that truly made me happy.

What is your advice to any high school students thinking about entering the political science program at La Salle?

Read as much as you can. As a political science major, you read so many passages, some are interesting, and some are incredibly dense. The more you like to read, the easier life will be.
