La Salle University’s 30th President

To the La Salle University community:

Today is an important moment for La Salle University. The Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to appoint Daniel J. Allen, Ph.D., the Senior Vice President of University Advancement and External Relations at DePaul University in Chicago, as La Salle University’s 30th President. His presidency begins April 18.

I encourage you to learn more about our next President and his path to La Salle.

Our search for La Salle’s next President yielded a tremendously talented, qualified, and comprehensive field of candidates. Select finalists met in late January with stakeholder groups across our broader University community. From this last stage of the search process, Dr. Allen emerged as our candidate of choice to lead La Salle University. I have every confidence, as does the Board of Trustees, that Dr. Allen will build upon our impressive foundation and elevate La Salle to significant new heights.

Dr. Allen is an extraordinary leader whose talents and experience equip him well to guide La Salle University as our next President. He possesses a deep commitment to high-impact teaching and learning, in full alignment with our university’s mission. More importantly, he is positioned to shape La Salle’s promising future by addressing our current needs and supporting our students on their paths toward transformational personal and professional outcomes.

The appointment of our 30th President ushers in a new era for La Salle University—a moment to write a new chapter in our remarkable history. It also provides an opportunity to express gratitude to the leader who has stewarded La Salle for the last nine months. Tim O’Shaughnessy, ’85, has brought a remarkable level of critical thinking and innovation to his interim presidency. We are grateful to retain Tim’s leadership, as he will serve on Executive Cabinet and provide vital transition support for Dr. Allen.

Lastly, I extend profound thanks to our Presidential Search Committee and everyone who participated actively in the search process. We heard from Explorers everywhere and across all segments of our University community. You offered priceless feedback and candid recommendations. You helped shape our areas of focus for the search and develop our positional profile. You provided us with a clear roadmap toward identifying our next leader. Without you and your passion for this university, selecting a great president like Dr. Allen would have been impossible.

I know you will join me in welcoming Dr. Allen to La Salle University.

Sincerely,

William W. Matthews, III, ’90, Esq.
