Search Committee Charge

The Board of Trustees of La Salle University presents the following charge to the Presidential Search Committee (“Search Committee”):

  • That the Search Committee present to the Board of Trustees the names of not more than three candidates for the University President. Final interviews of the candidates and the ultimate selection of La Salle University’s President shall be the responsibility of the Board of Trustees.
  • That the Chair and Vice-Chairs of the Search Committee will assemble a broad, inclusive, and diverse search committee dedicated to the singular objective of the identification and recommendation of the strongest possible candidates over any particular special interests of the individual members.
  • That the desired characteristics and qualifications that the Board seeks in Presidential candidates be developed during this process by the Search Committee, which may include listening sessions, surveys, conferences and other forums for broad University community input. The Board expects the Search Committee to identify candidates, with input from appropriate members of the University community, who exhibit the agreed-upon characteristics including the advancement of the core values and mission of La Salle University.
  • That the Search Committee acknowledge the importance of their role to the University and the degree of diligence and commitment necessary for the role, including attending frequent meetings over a period of months not expected to exceed twelve months in duration.
  • That the Search Committee members serve as ambassadors for the University in their engagements with candidates during the search process.
  • That the Search Committee is authorized to work with an executive search consultant to identify and screen candidates in accordance with University policies and procedures.
  • That the Search Committee understands the importance and criticality of confidentiality during this process and any communications concerning the progress and results of the Search Committee will be coordinated by the Chair of the Search Committee. In order to attract and retain the best qualified candidates in this search, there can be no outside discussion of potential candidates or of the internal workings of the search process. All information and deliberations of the Presidential Search Committee pertaining to candidates shall be kept in strict confidence by members of the search committee.
  • That the Search Committee will conduct a search that seeks a diverse and inclusive pool of candidates, and its search in accordance with the University’s Nondiscrimination Statement, and under no circumstances will a candidate’s race, color, religion, sex, age (40 years and older), disability, national origin or ancestry, citizenship, sexual preference or orientation, marital, parental, family, and pregnancy status, gender identity, military or veteran status, genetic information, or any prohibited basis, be considered when judging any candidate in comparison to another.

We request that the Search Committee proceed as expeditiously as possible and provide frequent, transparent communications to the Board and the Lasallian community.
