Barbara Grosshauser, MSN, R.N.

Instructor of Nursing

Barbara Grosshauser has had 25 years of acute and long term nursing care experience delivering nursing care to children, adolescents, and the adult and geriatric populations. She has delivered exemplary nursing care in the medical surgical nursing area working with pediatric cancer patients, chronic lung disease patients, and kidney and liver transplant patients at an internationally recognized urban hospital for children. While delivering nursing care on a transplant unit, she delivered care to children who received transplants at this hospital from different parts of the world including Iceland and the former Yugoslavia. She has additional direct nursing care experience managing pain in the post operative patient in the PACU and Short Stay Unit, and working as a pool nurse in various units of this hospital for children including the ER and NICU.

An interest in geriatrics introduced her to long term care for the elderly for which she worked for nine years as a supervisor in a skilled nursing facility.  The experience of working with populations of various ages and diverse settings has especially benefited her in the public health setting.

Ms. Grosshauser has been teaching undergraduate nursing students in the clinical setting at several local children’s hospitals and long term care facilities since September 2004. She also has taught at a local community hospital focusing on acute nursing care of the adult.

Additionally, she has taught undergraduate nursing students in the public health setting to assess and address issues of ethnically and socio-economically diverse preschool, adult, and geriatric populations.

She has collaborated with La Salle’s Psychology Department with the University’s Anti-Smoking Campaign Initiative. For several years, her undergraduate nursing students have presented posters with information regarding smoking cessation at La Salle’s annual health fairs.

While completing her graduate studies at La Salle, she worked as a child care nurse consultant throughout the Philadelphia region. Through this experience she became interested in childhood obesity and has published her findings in the Pennsylvania Nurse.
