Program/University Overview:
The primary goal of the Madrid Program is to give students the opportunity to experience Spanish culture first hand and to study Spanish by immersing themselves in the Spanish way of life. This program is designed for students who seek to complete their six-credit language requirement abroad and for students who are interested in pursuing a major or minor in Spanish.

Capital of Spain since 1562, Madrid is located in center of the Iberian Peninsula on the banks of the river Manzanares. Because of this central location, the city has been the political and cultural center of Spain for centuries. Many neighborhoods, buildings and streets have preserved their historic character. Madrid is also a city of great art, most famous for the three museums of the Golden Triangle of Art, the Prado museum being one of the best known. Today Madrid is a lively metropolis. Benefiting from increasing prosperity since the 1980s, the city has consolidated its position as an important economic, cultural, industrial, educational, and technological center within the European Union.

GPA 2.75
Courses Offered:
Spanish Courses (9 credits) – Students are required to take three Spanish courses. The selection of courses will depend on the student’s language ability. A placement test will be given upon arrival. Students are encouraged to apply their credits towards partial
completion of a Spanish major or minor.
Religious Studies 400: Special Topics in Religion (3 credits) – This course will satisfy 3 credits in Religious Studies. This course is taught in English by a Manhattan College faculty member.
LLRN 209 or ART 090 – This course will satisfy 3 credits in Art. The credits will be allocated to the course of study by the Academic Advisor in the individual school. This course is taught in English by a Manhattan College faculty member.
Housing:
Students have an option to stay with a host family (meals and laundry service included) or in a student apartment (no meals or laundry are included). Students are responsible for these fees once in Madrid. The Manhattan College program director will assist with housing needs.
Cost:
If you are a student at one of the US Lasallian universities or colleges, you will remain
enrolled at your school and pay tuition and program fees there. Tuition is based on your campus tuition rates and may include an additional surcharge depending on the program.
