Admission Requirements

  • A completed application
  • Official transcript(s) from an accredited college/university where you earned your undergraduate degree and, if applicable, graduate degree. If you are in the process of completing undergraduate coursework, you may submit transcripts with courses that are in progress. If admitted, we must receive your final, official transcript with the degree conferred date prior to enrollment. You will be notified if you need to submit additional transcripts.
    • In order for a transcript to be official, it must be received directly from the higher education institution or through an official third-party service such as Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse. Transcripts received from applicants and/or an unapproved third party will be considered unofficial.
    • Official transcripts must reflect a minimum of 9-12 hours in psychology, marriage and family studies or counseling
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation. This should include a college professor who can assess the applicant’s academic qualifications and abilities as well as a supervisor who can assess the applicant’s professional qualifications, abilities, and motivation for enrolling in this program.
  • Essay/Personal Statement
    • This is a professional program designed to train you to become a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT).  In your statement, please include what professionalism means to you with regard to you becoming a LMFT. In addition, please include some information about yourself, your intentions concerning your academic and career paths, why you choose the La Salle Master’s Program, your expectations of the program, what you will contribute to the program, and what you believe you will eventually contribute to the mental health field.
  • Work experience (paid or volunteer) in an area related to marriage and family therapy or the mental health field is considered.
  • Evidence of the ability to meet the qualifications, both academic and professional, required for field placement in the profession.

Life experience is valued, and therefore some preference will be given applicants who present relevant work experience, either paid or volunteer.
