A student’s behavior, especially if it changes over time, may be an indicator of distress or a “cry for help.” You may be the first person to recognize signs of distress in a student. If you recognize distress, learn how to properly recognize, respond and refer the person to the appropriate resources for help. Click here to review the Crisis Response Red Folder.
If you believe a student may be dealing with homelessness (or are at risk of being homeless), housing instability, food insecurity, an emergency situation, or may be at risk in some way, you can file a students of concern report here: https://cm.maxient.com/reportingform.php?LaSalleUniv&layout_id=10
Examples of risk factors may be poor academic performance and or attendance, family death or serious illness, change of mood, eating habits, personal hygiene, or sleep patterns, relationship issues, talking about or exhibiting excessive alcohol or drug use, mental health concerns, change in social behavior, etc.

It can be challenging to do your best in class if you have trouble paying for groceries, lack a safe and stable place to live, need transportation, or are experiencing an emergency where you need help. If you are in one of these situations, learn how the Explorers CARE Program can help. You can schedule an appointment by emailing explorerscare@lasalle.edu. If you would like to know about state and local benefits you may be eligible for, such as SNAP (up to $250 a month for groceries) utilities and cash assistance, and free internet and tax preparation, use the La Salle Single Stop’s Online Self-Screening tool. A staff member will help you connect with those benefits.
Explorers CARE offers a variety of trainings to support faculty and staff in responding to students experiencing psychological distress and dealing with the aftermath of a student’s death or crisis. The trainings include:
