La Salle University values the diversity of our campus community and endeavors to create a safe, affirming academic and work environment, where all students, employees, alumni, and campus guests/visitors can fully and genuinely participate. We strive to recognize community members as they would like to be recognized. The University recognizes and supports that some of our students and employees identify themselves by a first name other than their legal, primary, and/or given birth name, a Gender Identity other than that assigned at birth, and specific Gender Pronouns. For these reasons, the University encourages students and employees to self-report their Chosen Name, Gender Identity, and Gender Pronouns in certain University systems.
Once you have entered or updated your Chosen Name and/or Pronouns into Self-Service Banner, they will appear within available University systems within one to two business days. If you experience any issues, please contact:
Important Note: The implementation of this within our technical systems is an ongoing process. The University will continue to work on some of the more difficult technical implementations, as well as evaluating new systems and forms where this information can be included. Accordingly, this page will be updated as we are able to make additional changes in our systems to allow for use of a Name, Gender Identity and/or Pronouns. Not every system is able to incorporate these changes immediately and, in some circumstances, we are unable to use a Chosen Name due to various legal requirements.
This table sets forth where Chosen Names can currently be used, versus those items which require a legal name.

We understand that Gender Identity* is fluid and changing and recognize that our initial list of options for Gender Identity is limited. It is our intention to make additional selections available as we better learn to work with the various systems within the University and as we educate our community. Currently, we offer the following choices to indicate Gender Identity in University systems: (listed alphabetically)
The following University systems allow for a chosen Gender Identity.

We recognize there are many gender pronouns that people identify with. In our initial systems implementation, we offer the following choices of Gender Pronouns in our automated systems (listed alphabetically), however in the places listed below where you can manually add your Pronouns, you are not limited by this list
*If you do not designate Gender Pronouns in Banner or in the places where Pronouns can be added manually (e.g., email signature line), nothing will appear.
**For automated systems, if you select “Pronouns Not Listed”, in many places it will still currently appear blank. Accordingly, if you select this, we encourage you to tell your Gender Pronouns to those whom you feel need to know them.
This table sets forth where Gender Pronouns can be displayed.

Individuals may not use a Chosen Name for purposes of misrepresentation or fraud. Individuals may not use any profane or offensive language as a Chosen Name. The University reserves the right to deny or remove an individual’s Chosen Name if it contains inappropriate, profane or offensive language. Those who intentionally misuse the Chosen Name option may be subject to appropriate disciplinary/corrective action.
La Salle community members are expected to be respectful of others Chosen Name, Gender Identity, and/or Gender Pronouns. Mislabeling or misgendering often occurs with misuse of Gender Pronouns or assuming a gender not consistent with how an individual identifies. Deployments of misnaming, mislabeling, and misgendering can diminish self-respect and cause micro aggressive psychological harms. In its most basic form, using someone’s Chosen Name and Gender Pronouns and respecting their Gender Identity recognizes, honors, and respects the dignity of all individuals.
Those who intentionally participate in misnaming, mislabeling, or misgendering may be subject to appropriate disciplinary/corrective action under La Salle’s Anti-Harassment and Non-Discrimination Policy and the applicable Student Development & Campus Life Policy.
Communication will be an essential part of the successful implementation of these guidelines and it is up to every member of the community to be an active advocate in the event you hear someone being misnamed, mislabeled, or misgendered. We encourage community members to foster an inclusive community by speaking up for each other, teaching each other, and where appropriate, offer grace to those who are making unintentional mistakes by having conversations about why using Chosen Names and correct pronouns is important.
