Teacher Effectiveness

The institute seeks to increase the number of professional development opportunities for teachers. The Institute serves as a hub for educational initiatives and activities that support the degree programs in the Education Department at La Salle. The institute amplifies the work of the department by providing an outward-facing lens to advocate and cultivate educational excellence in the region.

Courses taken at La Salle University can be used to fulfill Act 45 or Act 48 requirements.

Courses can also be modified to support school-based professional development.

The Education Department Teacher Certification and Master’s Degree

The undergraduate education program offers majors in Educational Studies, Early Childhood, Middle Level, Secondary and Special Education Certification.

A five-year master’s degree option is available for students who want to add on additional certification and obtain a master’s degree in one year.

The Education Department also offers a Master of Arts degree aligned with post-baccalaureate initial and add-on teacher certifications programs.

Schools and districts may contract with Education Department at La Salle for one course or an entire program sequence that are both credit and non-credit bearing experiences. Contact the Education Department for offerings in such high needs areas as instructional coaching, trauma informed practices, autism, and culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy.

Curriculum, Courses and Requirements

Advanced Placement Summer Institute

La Salle University in conjunction with the College Board hosts the Advanced Placement Summer Institute each year.  The APSI supports high school teachers as they receive training to become advance placement teachers in their schools. The institute is one week in the summer. Discounts are available for select teachers.

Woods Services – School Partnership

La Salle University has joined with Woods Services of Langhorne, PA, to support special education teacher through the state certification. Woods employees take courses through  through our graduate programs in education.

Early Learning Pathways at La Salle (ELPAL)

Through a grant with PHMC, the Education department offers free coursework for undergraduate Pre-K educators who work in select early learning centers across the city.  Students can also earn a B.A. with PreK-4 certification! For those holding an A.A. in Early Childhood, the program allows you to complete your degree in as little as 10 semesters (year-round).
