Gathering in Prayer

October 12, 2023

Terrorism and extremism do not help reach a solution to the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, but fuel hatred, violence, revenge, and only cause each [other to] suffer. The Middle East does not need war, but peace, a peace built on dialogue and the courage of fraternity.

– Pope Francis (Oct. 11, 2023)

Dear La Salle Community,

Throughout the course of this week, we have witnessed reports of the traumatic reality of terrorism and human atrocities. We condemn the acts of terror and violence against innocent civilians by Hamas.

Because we are a Lasallian Catholic university, we recognize that we are a diverse community, and have a shared commitment to the common good. As we prepare for fall break, we are reminded of our Lasallian values and the expectations we hold as Lasallians that our community members will demonstrate respect for all persons and will not engage in or promote violence and hatred in any form.

With that shared interest in our minds and our hearts, we will gather to pray for peace. This will be an opportunity for all of us to come together as one and pray as sisters and brothers for our common good. We gather to pray for an end to violence and hatred; and for a peace that is just, fair, and equitable for all people.

In that spirit, please join the La Salle community upon return from Fall break on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at 4 p.m. for a brief interfaith prayer service for peace. We will gather by the Peace Pole on the quad.

In Peace,

Daniel J. Allen, Ph.D.
President
