Paul Westhead, head coach of the La Salle Men’s Basketball from 1970 to 1979, was awarded the Chuck Daly Award for Lifetime Achievement by the NBA at the NBA Finals game in June.

During his nine years at the helm, the Philadelphia native amassed a record of 142-105 while also serving as a professor in the English department. Westhead led the Explorers to two NCAA tournaments and an NIT while leading La Salle to seven winning seasons.

Over a 40-year career in basketball, Westhead led the Showtime Lakers to the 1980 NBA championship, and coached six NBA franchises, as well as several college and WNBA teams.
